Meek Effort Picks Up Steam

After a week of concentrated effort by industry organizations and state associations to garner additional support for H.R. 3790, this anti-competitive bidding bill introduced by Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL) now enjoys at least 118 sponsors.

Activities during so-called “Meek Week” were designed to urge legislators to reconsider the controversial competitive bidding program in light of its potentially disastrous effect on the HME community and its patients. HME providers and patients, with the support of AAHomecare, NAIMES, The MED Group, VGM, and state associations called or met face to face with House legislators to state their cases.

According to AAHomecare, in addition to the 118 commitments to cosponsor the bill, “several HME providers received commitments from their legislators that they would cosponsor Rep. Meek’s bill to eliminate the bidding program.”

Talking points about the competitive bidding program can be found at aahomecare.org/.
