Medtrade Spring offers product innovations and educational ideas.
At Medtrade Spring, respiratory and sleep therapy providers sought valuable ideas and new products to advance their businesses in a difficult market. Manufacturers and speakers gave what attendees were looking for, offering innovation and education in many shapes and sizes.
Inside the meeting rooms, a special track of seminars addressed a range of topics from creating joint ventures with sleep labs to understanding portable oxygen concentrators. On the exhibit floor, providers found approximately 300 booths featuring equipment opportunities and device upgrades. Here are several new and noteworthy products that Respiratory & Sleep Management uncovered at Medtrade Spring.
Philips Respironics Wins Providers Choice Award
Attendees visiting Medtrade’s New Product Pavilion honored Philips Respironics’ FitLife face mask with the Providers Choice Award. The FitLife total face mask provides comfort for patients who have difficulty wearing conventional masks or who prefer a clear line of sight, according to the company. “We are truly honored to be recognized by our customers and to receive the prestigious Providers Choice Award,” says Maura Weis, director, sleep marketing North America, Philips Home Healthcare Solutions, Monroeville, Pa.
AirSep Corp. introduced the VisionAire V, a lower-price version of its popular VisionAire oxygen concentrator. The V model has slightly less soundproofing and energy efficiency. It can answer a provider’s need for an economical yet reliable oxygen concentrator to serve a wide spectrum of patients, according to the company.

The Compliance Team featured a series of four new services designed to help providers meet the growing challenge of compliance audits by government contractors. The offerings are part of its Fraud Abuse Awareness Program. The four services include a two-day intensive training session and record review, a one-day review of random records, a webinar session, and a paper fraud manual, according to the company.

Inova Labs attended Medtrade Spring to build a group of preferred providers for its LifeChoice portable oxygen concentrator. The manufacturer will support the providers with direct-to-consumer marketing eff orts that include television ads and a toll-free call center. A limited number of providers will be accepted to the program based on geography and other factors, according to the company.

GE Healthcare showed its iVent 101, a new ventilator with advanced clinical performance in a lightweight and user-friendly design. The vent offers high-performance pneumatics, a touch-screen interface, a small footprint and long internal battery life. The iVent 101 can be used by infants over 5 kg through adults, in invasive or noninvasive applications, according to the company.

Ingen Technologies introduced the Smart Nasal Cannula. Available in adult, child or infant sizes, the cannulas include Oxyview, a built-in flow meter in the tubing that measures oxygen from 0 to 6 liters. The flow meters can help patients and caregivers see that appropriate amounts of oxygen are being delivered and eliminate unnecessary service calls, according to the company.

Medquip Inc. offered its MQ3200 View SpO2 Fingertip Pulse Oximeter. It features an easy-to-read display with oxygen saturation and pulse rate. It can accommodate a wide range of finger sizes from pediatric to adult and will operate 30 hours on two AAA batteries, according to the company.

SeQual Technologies focused on advancing providers’ understanding of pulse-dose oxygen delivery vs. continuous flow. It introduced eTask, a software tool for use with its transportable concentrator, the Eclipse 3 with autoSAT. The program converts an amount of continuous oxygen into a pulse-dose setting in milliliters. Other variables are also factored in, such as breaths per minute, tidal volume and oxygen concentration. Using the right pulse-dose setting on the device ensures that the patient gets optimum therapeutic amounts of oxygen, according to the company.
