AARC's International Respiratory Congress Kicks Off This Weekend

According to the results from a London-based study, long-term use of a macrolide antibiotic may reduce the frequency of exacerbations in patients with moderate to severe COPD by as much as 35 percent. The results were published in the first issue for December of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
CPAP treatment seems to improve cognitive functioning in patients with Alzheimer's disease who also suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, according to the results of a randomized clinical trial conducted at the University of California, San Diego. The study, led by Sonia Ancoli-Israel, Ph.D., professor of psychiatry at the University of California School of Medicine, was published in the November issue of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
This year's conference — designed for respiratory therapists, managers, educators, physicians and clinicians of all types — will highlight the latest in respiratory care.
